Passive components include fixed resistors and capacitors used to control, store, and condition electrical energy within electronic circuits. These parts are defined by stable, non-powered behavior and are selected based on electrical value, tolerance, and physical form factor.

Resistors in this category provide fixed opposition to current flow and are used for functions such as voltage division, current limiting, and signal conditioning. Capacitors store and release electrical energy through an electric field between conductive plates separated by a dielectric, supporting roles such as filtering, decoupling, timing, and power stabilization in a wide range of circuits.
